We’ve been hard at work preparing to launch the Joost Video Network for our parent company Adconion. After many sleepless nights over the last couple of days, we have finished the heavy lifting and have progressed the brand enough to where the sales team can get out there and do what they do best, SELL! Here is a sample from the new brand we created…

I always enjoy having the opportunity to work on large branding campaigns, and it was a great honor to lead the charge on a project of this scale. Internally, the feedback has been amazing and externally the reviews have been great as well. We still have a ton of work to do, but here are some links for the various releases today.

It’s no secret that I, along with every other web designer, absolutely despise Internet Explorer. The real problem for many years has been Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) due to it’s lack of anything useful. Microsoft is notorious for putting out terrible products including their archaic web browsing platform. We’ve spent countless hours cursing it’s name and having to write special code and fixes in order for our websites to even look somewhat normal in the browser. Over the past couple of years, some have just been fed up with it and said enough-is-enough.

Luckily for us, the mothership Google recently decided to stop supporting IE6. With one press release, the entire web community took a giant sigh of relief. Google really sets the bar when it comes to web trends and that means if Google doesn’t support it, then I won’t either. In fact, I was mid-code on my IE6 style sheet for this site when the announcement came and I said “screw it!” and just abandoned it. As a result, if you look at my site in IE 6 it won’t work all that well. But then again, if you are using IE 6 then you probably shouldn’t be using the internet anyway!

Now all kinds of celebratory websites have been popping up, my favorite of which is iefuneral.com . So with no sadness in anyway way, shape, or form, do I say good riddance to you IE 6. Now we just need to get rid of 7 and 8!

I did something in the month of January that I had never done before, I posted at least one blog entry every single day. I generally don’t have very much to say, at least not enough to warrant a daily post, but there were many people who were concerned about our family so it seemed to be the right thing to do. There were many days where I said to myself, “Ugh! I don’t want to do this”, but I’m glad I did. I now have a very detailed journal of a very tumultuous time for our family and how we managed to get through it.

I’ve decided that I’m going to be much more involved with blogging on my personal site. I’ve always treated myself as a brand with my external presence and in order to maintain that I will have to “get-my-blog-on”. While it won’t be everyday, because I don’t have the time (or quite frankly that much to say), I will do my best to keep up this life journal I’ve been a part of for the last two years. I’m also committed to keeping up babymakoa.com and keeping updates going on that site as it has become immensely popular with our family and friends.

That’s it for now. I wanted to make that commitment to blog official and send it out to the universe. And so it begins…

It’s February 20th and it is my first post of the new year. In all reality, we are celebrating with the chinese this year and decided to celebrate 2010 at Chinese new year. For those of you how know me personally, you probably know that we had our son Makoa on January 4th. Things needless-to-say didn’t go as planned and we spent a little over a month in the NICU at Torrance Memorial. He’s doing much better, but we still have a long road ahead. For those who are interested, you can read up on our experience at babymakoa.com

One of the many things to suffer as a result of our hectic life over the last two months has been this site and the launch of LB 3.0. For those who have followed the blog, I have been working on re-designing the site since last July. I was pretty much all finished in December except for a couple of outstanding items. Those did, however, prevent me from launching the new site until now, three months later.

I haven’t really tested it yet, but I wanted to get it launched as it’s almost a year after I started designing it. I think I missed the boat on the iPhone idea, but it matched my branding on my resume and landing me the gig at RedLever so I can’t be too upset. Speaking of RedLever, quite a bit has happened on that front as well. Our parent company, Adconion Media Group, recently acquired Joost and we have hired a bunch of new employees. We also launched the new RedLever site a couple of weeks ago, make sure to check-it-out.

As I’m preparing for the birth of my third child next week, I’ve found myself reflecting on not only this past year but the past decade as well. It’s been quite an interesting 10 year stretch for me personally and professionally. Here is a list of some of the accomplishments and firsts in the last 10 years:

I graduate from college
I got married
I started a family
I voted in my first Presidential election
I coached in the finals at Volleyball festival
I started my own company
I won the 6-man volleyball tournament
I recorded my songs in a professional studio
I bought my first car
I bought my first house
I got my first full-time job
I visited Europe for the first time
I found God

I’m sure there are so many more, but that is what comes to mind when I think of some of the more important milestones in the last 10 years.

I have to say that I’m very excited to see 2009 go. It has been a year of ups and downs, from layoffs to new jobs and new houses, but we’ve managed to get through. I can’t think of a better way to ring in a new year and new decade with the birth of our third child. So… with reflection and prayer, I say goodbye 2009 and hello to what is yet to come.

It’s the end of an era in Westchester. The women’s volleyball coach at LMU, Steve Stratos, has coached his last game as the Lions head coach. It was announced today that Bill Husak will not renew his contract as Head Coach. While the Lions have had a less than stellar year, and I do think change is important in an athletic program, I think it’s important to examine the real reason why LMU Athletics has been unsuccessful the past few years.
The answer: Bill Husak.

Bill Husak is a man who has done nothing good for LMU Athletics during his tenure. Yes, I am biased because he was responsible for cutting the men’s volleyball program that I was a member of, but he has also completely destroyed the sense of athletic community that was once present at LMU.

I only made a couple of LMU volleyball games this year, but my jaw hit the floor each time I sat in Gersten Pavilion, and not in a good way. One of my favorite memories of my college days was attending athletic events and cheering on our squad with the kind of spirit and tenacity usually reserved for a World Cup final. We would dress up, bring things to bang on and make noise with, we’d scream so loud you would lose your voice before the match was over. In a matter of five years, Bill Husak as managed to kill the very thing I loved most about our school, the athletic spirit.

When you go to catch a game a Gersten these days, it now has the atmosphere of a museum more than a collegiate sporting event. It is literally so quiet you could hear a mouse fart. It’s like Hank’s House has been turned into a giant vacuum that sucks the spirit and life out of those who are bold enough to actually attend a sporting event.

Yes, Bill Husak is to blame. His lack of vision and his determination to take successful programs and run them into the ground has to stop. Why, at a school that is one of the most beautiful in the world, should we have a men’s basketball team that would lose to most girls J.V teams? The answer is we shouldn’t.

While I feel the time is right to make a transition in the women’s program, the real question is when are we going to get a new Athletic Director? Hopefully sooner than later. You won’t be catching me at Gersten until it does.

Let me give you a little history behind this picture…

May 4th 2009, 12:17PM I Tweeted:

“just saw the Google car drive by my moms house. I grabbed my family as it drove by and we waved. Maybe well be on street view.”‘

We had just returned from a long day at the beach and we were getting ready to put the kids down for a nap. As I was getting out of the car, I noticed the funny-looking Google car driving one street over. I screamed to Tiff and the kids: ”Quick! Everybody out to the front of the house, the Google car is coming!”. Of course, being the uber-techo-dork that I am, I sounded like an incoherent baboon screaming for my family to come join me at the side walk. I told them to smile and wave as the car drove by, my Wife rolling her eyes the entire time. As the car zipped by, the lady driving was having a pretty good laugh at the four of us standing out there waving. My Wife then turns to me and says: ”I Don’t get it…”

Fast forward six months…

I was getting directions today as we were heading to the UCLA Women’s Volleyball game and I noticed Google Maps had an announcement up about Street View Hawaii being available. I, of course, immediately looked up my Mom’s address and sure enough we were there! Once again I screamed for my family to come and take a look at the computer. Now they finally understood what I was doing that day in May, and actually think it’s pretty cool! 2pts for the Super-Geek!

Even though he has long since passed-away, I still recall vividly the stories he told me of flying P-38’s in WWII. The sacrifices that he and my Grandmother made were unimaginable, but I am so grateful they did so we could live in this great Country of ours.

I’ve been saying it for a while: In order to succeed in a highly competitive marketplace, you need to brand yourself. I built this site over three years ago although I feel that my personal “brand evolution” has been evolving for much longer.

I came across a CNN article tonight discussing the term Me 2.0, basically saying all the things I’ve been talking about for a couple of years. It really hits the nail on the head which means that I need to start thinking about Me 3.0.

I know, I know… my site is a couple years old. It’s all designed and ready to go, but where does on find the time? Don’t know, but I’ll figure it out one of these days!
